United States District Court – Central Announces the Electronic Filing of New Civil Cases
Beginning October 12, 2010, attorneys may electronically file new civil cases in CM/ECF and pay filing fees on-line using a credit card. You can visit the web site at www.casd.uscourts.gov/cmecf for step-by-step instructions for filing a new civil Complaint, Notice of Removal, Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus and Civil Miscellaneous Case. Previously, these needed to be hand delivered to the Court Clerk.
Counsel are encouraged to read the instructions in the “CM/ECF User’s Manual – How to File a New Civil Case” before filing a new case, and once we get a chance to use it we’ll report back with any issues we identify. There are also new procedures regarding the electronic issuance of the civil summons. The Clerk’s Office will now prepare all summons forms and electronically issue them to the attorney filing the new case. After the Clerk’s Office reviews your new case, you will receive notification of the civil case number and judge assignments along with your issued summons.
In addition to electronic filing of new civil cases, you can also electronically file other documents which require a filing fee, including a Civil Notice of Appeal and Criminal Notice of Appeal.
